Hybrid vehicles were the stuff of dreams centuries ago. Nobody ever thought that creating a vehicle independent from fuel was possible. Fortunately with the continuing development of hybrid technology, more efficient and practical vehicles have been created. In the recent years the campaign for global warming has brought the attention of the public. Hybrid cars are now becoming steadily popular available in different types from compact sedans to SUVs.

Environmental issues are not the only reason that has made the public favor hybrid cars. Rising gas prices is also one of the major reasons why people prefer hybrid cars than conventional ones. Its also practical in suburban environments where you don’t really need horsepower but gas mileage.

There are different types of hybrid vehicles. They can vary from the simplest wheelbarrows to ships. No matter what form they are, these vehicles help in reducing greenhouse and noise emissions. Although these vehicles are expensive due to their unique structures, developments will continue to provide more alternatives to the public. These cars may not compare to conventional ones with a 200 horsepower but why would you need that if you only need 20 in the streets?

The simplest hybrid would be the single wheeled vehicles. These are wheelbarrows famously depicted with sails. This can be seen in Chinese sailing carriages.

The next is two wheeled vehicles. These are usually cycle type vehicles. The best example would be the Moped and electric bicycles. They are powered by an electric motor or an internal combustion engine in combination with the rider’s muscles. This concept was also used in the 1800’s by motorcycles. The electric bicycle can either be a parallel or a series hybrid.

Hybrid vehicles are not just limited to private cars. There are also hybrid power trains used by heavy vehicles. There are diesel or turbo electric buses, railway locomotives, heavy duty vehicles, hydraulic machinery and ships.

In ships a diesel engine drives the electric generator or hydraulic pump which in turn powers one or more hydraulic or electric motors. Sails and engines were early forms of hybrids which may be used again due to rising fuel costs.

More developments are continually being made in hybrid structures and systems for efficiency. Today buying a hybrid car is expensive but it will be beneficial in the long run. It does not just save fuel costs but also removes pollution that can harm the health of the people and take whatever it is left of the environment.

Diesels have experienced a great history here in the United States. In 1980, General Motors modified their 350ci gas V8 to run on diesel fuel. The result however, wasn’t that god. These engines offered better fuel economy but tiny else. They were very slow, & not very reliable.

Throughout the 90s, Benz & Volkswagen offered diesel vehicles in the United States, with each generation becoming cleaner, smoother, & more powerful than the last. Overall, they were a tough sell as they still lacked the horsepower that plenty of were seeking.

Today, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Volkswagen, Ford, & plenty of other manufacturers are offering diesels to plenty of markets throughout the world. To put it simple, forget everything you know or think you know about diesel engines in the United States.

Benz offers the C320 CDI SE that has 224bhp, & over 360 lb foot of torque. This automobile gets under 48 mpg on the highway, with an acceleration of 0 - 60 in under 7 seconds. Throughout North The United States, you won’t find a gasoline engine that offers this matchless blend of fuel economy & excellent performance.

These newer engines benefit from hundreds of technical innovations. There’s several diesels in Europe that offer better acceleration than their gasoline counter parts. BMW’s 120d has 163bhp, goes 0 - 60 in under 8 seconds, & achieves 49.6 miles per gallon.

There is hope however, as refiners will soon be producing what is known as ultra low sulfur diesel fuel. This will help to reduce the sulfur content from 500ppm to 15ppm.

The reason why diesels haven’t caught on in North The united states comes down to four word - sulfur. They have much sulfur in the diesel here in the United States. This cheap grade of diesel fuel will run havoc on the more sophisticated diesels offered overseas & cause an increase in emissions.

Over the years, the prices of both gas and diesel have experienced some drastic changes. Plenty of years ago, the price of gas was around a dollar or a little more, nothing like it is today. Back then, gas wasn’t high in price although the demand for vehicles wasn’t what it is today either.

As the demand for vehicles grew, the demand for fuel grew as well. Other actions and events have played in to the equation as well, resulting in the rising costs of fuel. Fuel is something they all need to run our vehicles, as they would not be able to go anywhere without it.

As you may know, a majority of the gas they get at local gas stations comes from overseas, primarily the Middle East. Therefore, they have to pay taxes and such on the gas they use, which pays for the gas as well as the shipping. If they got our gas from within the United States, three cannot help but wonder whether or not the prices would indeed be lower.

Diesel on the other hand, has always managed to keep a price lower than gas. Diesel comes from within the United States, so the prices are of coursework going to be lower. The only problem associated with diesel fuel is locating it, as plenty of gas stations don’t sell it.

When it comes to the choice between the one, diesel fuel is obviously cheaper to buy. Gas is in supply more, which means that you can find it anywhere. If you own a gasoline vehicle, you obviously do not need to put diesel in it. If you own a diesel vehicle, then you of coursework would not need to put gas in it either.
